Desktop Management Interface
Abbreviation: DMI

Within a computer system, there is a gap between management

software and the system's components that require management.

Managers must understand how to manipulate information on a

constantly growing number of products. In order for products to

be manageable, they must know the intricacies of complex encoding

mechanisms and foreign registration schemes.

The Desktop Management Interface, or DMI, that acts as a layer of

abstraction between these two worlds.

Manged by the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) .
